This collection relates to General O'Donnell's military career and personal activities beginning with his assignment to the Philippine Islands in 1941 through each of his subsequent assignments until retirement in 1963. Significant material pertains to his command duties in World War II; his tour of duty as Director of Information, Army Air Forces; his command of the Far East Air Force Bomber Command; his command of Pacific Air Forces and files relating to his role in the establishment of the United States Air Force Academy, 1955-1960.

General Emmett (Rosy) O'Donnell was one of aviation's pioneers who from his days as an Army Air Corps air mail pilot went on to build an impressive list of military aviation firsts. In 1941 he led the first mass flight of B-17 Flying Fortresses across the Pacific from Hawaii to the Philippines. Before World War II was two days old, he had earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
